Lions Injuries Rub Salt in the Wounds

With one test left to play, the British & Irish Lions have a horrendous injury list following the lost second test. Both props who started the match, Jenkins and Jones, both centres, O'Driscoll and Roberts and winger Tommy Bowe are all carrying injuries.

The props have already been ruled out, Adam Jones with a dislocated shoulder that required surgery, and Gethin Jenkins with a fractured cheekbone. O'Driscoll is suffering with concussion following a dodgy challenge on Springbok Dannie Rossouw while Tommy Bowe has an elbow injury and Jamie Roberts a wrist injury. All three backs are in doubt for the final test in Johannesburg.

Lions doctor James Robson said: "It certainly was a fairly brutal game. As the casualty list goes it is not something I am happy with. To lose two of our most colourful characters in Gethin and Adam is distressing. Gethin has had a plastic plate inserted. The timescale for his recovery is six to eight weeks.

"We couldn't get Adam's shoulder to pop back in at the stadium and he was required to go to theatre. He will be subject to further investigation and specialist opinion. Brian is very much alert and conscious today but he is subject to the usual return to play protocol."
