The Lions lost the series this afternoon as they suffered a last minute defeat against the Springboks to lose the game 28-25. After an absolutely massive first 40 performance, the Lions lost both props Jones and Jenkins, both centres, Roberts and O'Driscoll all to injury and the Springboks came back fiercely.
A brilliant try up the middle from Bryan Habana, and a quite incredible finish in the corner from Jaque Fourie gave the Boks the lead before a majestic penalty kick from Stephen Jones pushed the Lions level. With the score standing at 25 all, O'Gara lofted a huge kick into the air, charged down the pitch but match referee Cristophe Berdos adjudged O'Gara to have taken the catcher in the air.
Morné Steyn stepped up to the kicking tee on his home ground and from 54m bisected the uprights to win the match and seal the series for the Springboks. It was a very bitter pill to swallow for the Lions after what was frankly one of the most incredible test matches of recent times.
To be perfectly honest, I'm too gutted to write anything more right now other than to express my incredible dissapointment but also my incredible pride. The Lions were awesome today and the effort was truly valiant but credit must go to the Springboks - they are, clearly, the mightiest team in the world.
