So, it wasn't to be in the first test. After being brutalised by the Boks in the first half the Lions helped restore some NH rugby pride despite a disappointing defeat. They showed heart, anger and frustration, all valid emotions given the scoreline. In the final twenty the Lions threw everything at the Boks and came so close, but sadly it was not to be.

I've spent the last 24hrs immersed in my day job, so apologies to you all for the lack of coverage during the last few days. I'm back on the same page as you all now. I'll be taking the next few days to analyse the game in intricate detail. Common wisdom says that a loss in the first test, particularly in this series, can't be overcome. I'm going to throw that songbook out the window because the Lions don't look like a beaten side, and quite frankly, I'm not interested in negativity.

The Lions were frankly dominated in the first 50 mins, but once the scrum was shored up, the Lions began to turn the tide. Humiliation was not going to be allowed on the menu. Huge credit to South Africa, they looked like the world class side they are, full of players thriving under pressure and ferocious up front. I've still gotta rewatch the match - I spent the first go screaming at the tele - but once I have, I'll be making up for lost time with analysis and comment.

Cheers for the patience guys, was gutted to have missed the match live.
