Leigh Halfpenny has successfully come through a fitness test and will fly out this evening to rejoin his Lions teammates. It's a huge boost for the Lions given the young wingers outstanding recent form and his ability as a long-range goal kicker.

Geech said at this afternoon's press conference that, "He's done two full sessions, including kicking sessions from 35 and then 40 metres. Leigh's been training, 'rehabing' outstandingly well. Our medical team gave him a programme to follow, which he's done.

"The Cardiff doctor watched him again with the physio... and there's been no comebacks from that at all, which we were waiting for. We got the phone call this morning so I gave him a ring straight away and said 'can you get on the plane tonight? So there was a bit of silence at the other end and I think he's already started packing his bags. So we hope to see him here by tomorrow morning."

The welsh winger was ruled out of the start of the tour before departure due to a thigh injury and was sent back to his club for intensive rehab and treatment. On arrival he will become the youngest current member of the squad and will inherit the mascot carrying duties from fellow Lion Keith Earls.
