Mike Blair has been withdrawn from the Lions match against Western Province this afternoon due to a sprained foot. The injury occurred in training yesterday but has not settled as management and medical staff wished and he has therefore been withdrawn from the 22.

The management has explained that as Mike Phillips is recovering from the midweek game, Shane Williams will take Mike Blair's place on the bench. The welsh winger has deputised at scrum-half occasionally in the past, but is not considered a specialist in the position. He is the only player to have featured in every match-day 22.

In other news, Gerald Davies is calling for clarity over the Ryan Jones debacle. It seems that what happened was the after coming off for Wales on their N.America tour due to a head injury, Ryan Jones was initially examined and given the OK to travel home to the UK where further, more comprehensive tests were planned. In fact, he ended up travelling to South Africa where the same battery of test were performed. Clearly someone failed to communicate to someone else that the medical tests might be more than a formality!
