Royal XV Announce Initial Squad

Koch Wilhelm
The Royal XV (previously known as the Highveld XV) have announced an initial 27 man squad to face the Lions in the tourists opening match on May 30th. The game which will be played at the Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg may be against a representative side, but the Lions shouldn’t underestimate the task - the Royal XV is chock full form players.

13 players are drawn from the successful Griquas, buoyant on the back of their recent Vodacom Cup success over the Blue Bulls, with 10 more players from the Leopards and a final 4 from the Puma’s. No players have been selected from the Valke or Griffons.

Names to watch for are Riaan Viljoen of the Griquas, who scored all of his teams 28 points in the Vodacom Cup final as well as form centre Hanno Coetzee. Six members of the squad have played at Super 14 level.

Leopards flanker Wilhelm ‘Palm’ Kock will skipper the side.
